Architecture, Conservation & Planning | Salem, OR | Completed
The entire Oregon State Hospital site, which includes over 70 buildings and structures built between 1883 and 1958, is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. ARG provided preservation planning, architectural, and conservation services throughout all phases of the Oregon State Hospital renovation project in Salem.
ARG’s scope of architectural and conservation services included completing design and construction documentation for: the exterior restoration of the Kirkbride Building; the moving and restoration of the mortuary and the greenhouse; the restoration of the maintenance building; and the adaptive reuse of the warehouse building. ARG also completed a Historic Resources Report and detailed design guidelines for the historic district, in addition to leading the design team through the City of Salem’s Historic Landmarks Commission (HLC) review process.
